Scripture: Luke 15.3-5
Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose someone among you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them. Wouldn’t he leave the other ninety-nine in the pasture and search for the lost one until he finds it? And when he finds it, he is thrilled and places it on his shoulders.”
Devotion:
When we were small children, my brother was very energetic (Maeve takes after him a lot!). When we went on a family beach trip, he would wander on the beach, lost in his own imagination, and in a crowd of beachgoers, my parents were worried about him getting lost. One day, my parents let him wander until he looked up to realize he couldn’t see our umbrella. My parents were right behind him, and he wasn’t lost…but he felt lost, and he also had the pure joy and reassurance of immediately being found.
This week, we are going to be talking about this incredible gift, this amazing experience of being found by our loving God. We’ve all heard this a million times, but it is always worth remembering the depth of God’s incredible love for us. At TYC this year, we sang a song called “Reckless Love” that specifically is about this parable, and Ben introduced us to it during special music on August 21. We are going to try it again this Sunday, and you can watch this video to help prepare for Sunday morning. No matter how well you catch onto the tune of this song, I hope that the lyrics which describe God’s incredible love will resonate with your soul this week.
See you Sunday at 10am! If weather permits, we will be outside; but if it looks chilly or rainy, we will be inside!
